CORRUPTION

Hard to say when doppelganger movies became a thing in Hollywood, but Roses Are Red would seem an early entrant. In this production newly-minted D.A. Robert Thorne (Don Castle) is a dead ringer for a just-released convict, a fact not unnoticed by a crime syndicate nabob and his corrupted police department mole. Peggy Knudsen is slick as the D.A.'s crusading journalist girlfriend and Jeff Chandler has a role on the side of good. The film is easily digested but plays more like a Saturday matinee than serious drama.
