MYSTERY

I've seen this referred to as an "old dark house" plot after J.B. Priestley's novel of the same name. In this, Christies best selling novel, seven people from different backgrounds each receive a mysterious invitation to a weekend on a rich man's island attended to by a domestic staff of three. Nefarious doings occur and it soon becomes obvious all ten are trapped, the only way of leaving being the ultimate departure. It must be said this plot so resembles that of "The Ninth Guest" which preceded Christie's work as to question its originality.
